Authors and Illustrators

One of my favorite hobbies has been collecting beautifully illustrated books.  When my children were young I was a member of a book of the month club.  After many years of amassing beautiful and well written books my husband looked at my newest arrivals and said "Have you ever heard of a place where you can borrow these books...it's called a library."  :)

Authors whom I adore and admire:

We grew up reading Roald Dahl books regularly.  Our version of James and the Giant Peach had eerie illustrations that, to me, far surpass the newest version of the book made to go along with the movie, circa 1996.  Searching used bookstores for this original version has become a fun weekend activity.  No luck so far.

  September is Roald Dahl month!!

Dr. Seuss!!  Who does not love his stories!?!

I recently gave our collie a haircut...I was going for the lion cut...to make him more comfortable in our extremely hot climate.  Well, being that it was my first attempt it was not all so bad.  He ended up looking like a Dr. Seuss character with a cute poof on the end of his tail!

When we were given our first copy of Jan Brett's Gingerbread Baby I could not put it down!  What a beautifully illustrated book.  Shortly after I bought The Mitten

Check out this website, and look for the wonderful coloring pages that you may print!!  :)

If You Give a Pig a Pancake was a book I read to two of my favorite little people before I had some of my own.  It is such great fun and kept the kids asking for more.  Of course I had to buy a copy to add to my collection!

Well who has not fallen in love with one or more of Eric Carle's stories and illustrations?  This website has so much great information about Mr. Carle, including videos and slide shows demonstrating how he creates his stories and illustrations.  WONDERFUL!!

Janell Cannon:

Stellaluna and Verdi were baby shower gifts from friends who knew how much I love well illustrated stories.  We have added Pinduli and Crickwing to our collection.

Mercer Mayor!!  I was a little critter once enjoying Mr. Mayor's stories and illustrations.  I suppose I am now a big critter reading the stories to my little critters.
